Berkelouw Books - First Pics!!!
Dec 1st, 2008 by Ben
Breathless blog entry titles aside, there’s now a Berkelouw Books in Newtown! Things are as they should be.
Given a million years, Gould’s might use this as impetus to sort out their own labyrinthine catalogue.
Anyway, to the pics. Here’re a couple of photos of the building from Google Earth Streetview on my iPhone, which seem to have been taken by the Google truck before Berkelouw snapped up the lease.

And here’s what they’ve done to the place:

Unfortunately, Berkelouw haven’t updated their website to reflect the fact that they have a new store, but since they sell second-hand books and actually have a website, they’re well ahead of the curve anyway.
PS I spotted a college philosophy/ethics lecturer tapping away on his laptop in the cafĂ© - he’s already settled into a new writing hangout!
I still think Gertrude and Alice’s (in Bondi) beats Berkelouw by a country mile (for atmosphere, and for range of secondhand books).
Well, la di dah. Bondi.
Oooh — where’s this store located exactly?
Hey, Sam.
O’Connell St. Off to the right as you head south from college.
It’s pretty sweet.
